ABOUT CHIANG MAI CITY ARTS & CULTURAL CENTRE

The Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre was created to help local people understand the city's historical importance. It was also created to help them understand their roots and foster a sense of pride in local identity, and thus to help preserve the beauty of local customs and culture. In addition, the centre contributes to conservational tourism by preserving the heritage of the old city centre and giving visitors the opportunity to know and understand the city of Chiang Mai.

Lanna Folklife Centre offer an insightful dive into the cultural roots of Northern Thailand. The centres showcase the heritage of the ancient Lanna Kingdom through engaging exhibits on traditional costumes, music, architecture, spiritual beliefs, and everyday life. It's an ideal place to gain a richer understanding of Chiang Mai’s historical and cultural identity, by learning about people’s lives in the ancient Lanna Kingdom.

ABOUT BAAN KANG WAT

Nattawut “Big” Ruckprasit, one of the current occupants at Baan Kang Wat Market, had the idea of building a village where people could gather in one place. Today, Baan Kang Wat Market is a small artist community home to independently owned shops and businesses, gathering places, cafes, and restaurants.  It is a wonderful place to support local artists and craftsmen selling an array of handcrafted products; stationery, accessories, home decor, clothes, and more, community-centered workshops conducted by skilled artists, and cafes and restaurants throughout the town.

DO'S AND DON'T

DO'S

  • Do stand still when the national anthem is being played.

  • Culturally, Buddha images and statues are considered sacred and respected. 

  • Always be polite. Use polite particles such as "Ka" and "Krub"

  • Do the "Wai" when greeting and bow if apprioprate.

  • Respect the monks.

  • Dress appropriately.

DON'T

  • Do not wear shorts, tank tops and short skirts and any revealing clothes in the temples.

  • Do not touch people's head

  • Do not show the sole of your feet or point using your feet.

  • Do not make fun of Buddha statue or disrespect religious items

  • Do not mock, insult the monarchy/royalty.

  • Women should not sit next to monks 

  • Do not touch monks
